Sightreading for Pedal Harp Vol. 3: Dunwoodie and Williamson

This book is 86 pages of resource material.  It is not a tutor, but a source, and has been designed to give students sufficient practice at an intermediate level. Authors Lisa Williamson and Anna Dunwoodie have more than considerable amounts of experience as music teachers. Residing in New Zealand, they run a very successful harp ensemble weekend. We are fortunate to be able to obtain these books from so far away.

ModeUlations: Cindy Kleinstuber

ModeUlations by Cindy Kleinstuber Blevins is a book of pieces using modes and exotic scales.  The book contains 32 pages of music, along with four pages of text (descriptions and scales of the various modes used.)  The harp solos are each two pages long.  There are nine solos for lap harp (range of C below middle C up 24-26 strings.)  Seven of these are also arranged for larger harp.  In some cases the key of the piece for the larger arrangement has been changed.   Larger harps can play the entire book, while lap harps can play the nine original piec

Performance Solos

Performance Solos for the Harp is written for gigging professionals, amateur players, and most especially, students of the lever or pedal harp, since one of Chenette's major motivations in publishing is to enable students to have more and better repertoire.  The music is conceived idiomatically for the instrument with alternation of hands, 3-4 finger chord placings, thumb slides, harmonics, and glissandos.  Placings and fingerings are marked to enable accurate and efficient sight-reading in a lesson or on one's own.  Anyone who has worked through Chenette's earlier publicatio

Modal Musings

This book presents the seven modes with an analysis of each mode, in addition to a discussion of the use of the modes, a section on music theory, the primary/secondary chords for each mode, and suggested chord progressions. Also included are 18 newly composed pieces representing all the modes. A must-have for anyone who is interested in this form of music. 70 pp.

Here is a review from a satisfied cusmomer:

Theme et Variations - Dominig Bouchaud

This sweet piece is a French publication (thus the expense).  Oversize, only 2 pages in length.  Large notes.  12/8 time.  Key of Dm.  The theme is short - 4 measures.  Variation 1 utilizes long arpeggios, but not difficult.  Variation 2 utilizes harmonics.  Variation 3 has an active LH, but not hard.  Accidental free!

Mohr Adventures on the Harp Book 2 by Bonnie Mohr

Book II has arrived! Mohr Adventures on the Harp begins where Colorful Adventures on the Harp ends.

Ribbons by Stephanie Curcio

Expressive, flowing runs characterize this Stephanie Curcio piece. It is similar in form and composition to Pratt's "The Little Fountain".  An exceptional piece for intermediate pedal or lever harpists - full of downward and upward running arpeggio patterns. There is a lilting waltz melody in the middle of the piece for a nice contrast. Great for technical study but also works as a showy recital solo! INTERMEDIATE, ALL HARPS.

Glissades, A Deux Mains, Remonte-Pentes, A Doigts Croises, Melodie, Des Accords by Annie Challan

"Glissades, A Deux Mains, Remonte-Pentes, A Doigts Croises, Melodie, Des Accords" by Annie Challan is a collection of exercises designed for lever harp, playable on pedal harp (of course!). INTERMEDIATE, ALL HARPS.

Cinq Petits Preludes Intimes

For solo pedal harp, this is standard teaching repertoire for Salzedo method students.  There are 5 titles:  Tenderly Emoted, Dreamingly, Profoundly Peaceful, In Self-Communion, and Procession-Like.  All for the upper intermediate pedal harp student/performer.  Uses some special effects such as playing with fingernail, PDLT, silencing specific notes, and harmonics.  Pedal changes are noted in both solfeg and C,D,E etc.
