Medieval Songs and Dances of 11th – 14th C Europe Volume 2

This book is a collection of Medieval monophonic arrangements for amateur or professional musicians intent on getting started in Medieval music. It is essentially a Medieval Fake Book which includes songs, dances, Troubadour songs, Cantigas, 2-3 part motets, songs from the Sephardic tradition, and other forms. The arrangements are written in modern notation. The complete table of contents can be seen by clicking on the sample below. There is also a sample of what the pages look like. Very easy to read.

Cantiga's Renaissance Festival Favorites

Players of all kinds of instruments, including flute, fiddle, mandolin, recorder, whistle, guitar, harp and more, can use this collection of music which is popular at modern renaissance festivals. The music is presented simply, with melody lines and chord symbols, allowing for a wide range of interpretation. In addition to many period dance tunes, the book contains a selection of vocal numbers with lyrics included.

Songs for the King

Three Trios for Harp, Hammered Dulcimer, and Flute Volume I

Suitable for church, recital, or receptions, these beautiful and familiar tunes lend themselves well to the pleasing combination of instruments selected. There are no tricky rhythms or techniques, so busy musicians can work them up with little preparation. The harp part, which is also suitable for piano, is found in two formats: medium difficulty level for full range lever or pedal harp and easy or lap harp. The lap harp parts are suitable for 22-string instruments ranging from G-G.

Three Trios for Harp, Hammered Dulcimer, Flute, with Mtn Dulcimer

Three beautiful and mostly familiar tunes in ensemble combination. Play them with all of the different instruments or as few as you want. The harp parts can be played on piano, as well, and the hammered dulcimer and flute lines can be used for other concert pitch C instruments. Mountain dulcimer parts are written in notation and tablature. Tunings are D-A-D and D-G-D, no capo required. There are no tricky rhythms or techniques, so busy musicians can work these songs up with little preparation.

Lochabar No More

Three delightful ensemble arrangements, consisting of one familiar Celtic tune plus two excellent Celtic medleys. Solo lap harp versions of each piece are also included. The medley The Fiddler Dance the Light/Mor A Cheannaich swept the ensemble division of the Gulf Coast Harpers Celtic Contest a few years back. Hammered dulcimer carries the melody, trading off lead with harp while the flute plays countermelody. The lap harp version has left-hand melody with right hand descant.

Come Let Us Be Merry

Carols and dances from England, Scotland, Ireland and France written for melody line instruments with guitar chords included. Most with superb duet parts that are well-written and great fun to play.

St. Brigid's Flame

This is an exciting and new book like none other! Concert arrangements of music performed by Saint Brigid's Flame as on the CD of the same title. Saint Brigid's Flame is Mary Radspinner on harp, Constance Braden on winds and Elizabeth Jeter on hammered dulcimer. The arrangements are well thought out, tried and true performance material, with interesting harmonies, countermelodies and rhythms. They can be played on harp or piano, with 2 C instruments. Many of the flute parts were written by Constance Braden.

Girls & Whistles

In response to St. Patrick's Day requests, Mary Radspinner came up with this collection of trios for harp and two winds, a combination of whistle, flute or alto flute. The harp parts are relatively easy, the wind parts not necessarily so. Constance Braden wrote the countermelody for Chanter. These arrangements have worked well in both pub settings and church settings, believe it or not! And they're fun! Arran Boat Song, Chanter, Carolan's Concerto, Danny Boy, Fanny Poer, Jock O'Hazeldeen and Merrily Kiss the Quaker.
